What is PBSP? and What does it do?
PBSP stands for Philippine Business for Social Progress. It is the only business-initiated social development foundation in the Philippines and perhaps the only one of its kind in Asia. Founded in 1970 by 50 of the country’s prominent business leaders, PBSP is committed to promoting business sector involvement in improving the quality of life among poor Filipinos. PBSP programs focus on corporate citizenship, integrated area development, technology management, capability building, enterprise development and local governance. Through the years, it has harnessed partnerships among the government, NGOs, civil society and donor institutions to expand the impact and relevance of its work

 Where is PBSP?
The PBSP Head Office is located in Intramuros, Manila. It has regional offices in Cebu City in the Visayas, and in Davao City in Mindanao. PBSP also operates two technology centers: one in Calauan, Laguna and the other in Catbalogan, Western Samar.

 Where does PBSP operate?
PBSP is assisting programs in 65 provinces nationwide. Its core program, the Area Resource Management Program, is implemented in 10 of these provinces: La Union, National Capital Region, Western Batangas, Vigan, Cebu-Hillyland, Olango Island, Bohol, Negros, Samar, and the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

Who are the members of PBSP?
PBSP has a membership of more than 180 companies ranging from big multinational corporations to small single proprietorships. Most of these member companies are also doing their own corporate social development and philanthropic activities outside of their PBSP commitments. At any given time, at least 50 CEOs and/or representatives of these member companies are directly and actively involved in the Foundation's activities and programs.

What is the source of PBSP's funds?
PBSP’s funds primarily come from membership contributions and external sources. Member companies contribute 20% of 1% from their annual net income before taxes to the Foundation. PBSP uses these membership contributions to leverage more funds from external sources. Part of the Foundation’s program and operating funds are also sourced from internally-generated mechanisms, such as training management and enterprise fund management, among others.

How does a company become a PBSP member?
A company who wishes to become a member may contact our Membership Development Unit to express their interest. A new member company signs a Statement of Commitment pledging to support the Foundation's work. See also Call for Support.

What can members benefit from PBSP?
Member companies can benefit from the following: technical assistance in identifying a specific program or project which the company will fund out of the restricted donation to PBSP; ownership as donor of the program or project funded; Certificate of Donation which renders the donation as tax-exempt and deductible in their entirety from the company's income tax returns; and orientation on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Community Relations Programs, Corporate Volunteerism, Managing Corporate Foundation, and other CSR topics. For more details, please see Membership Premiums.

What is the Center Corporate Citizenship?
The Center for Corporate Citizenship was established by PBSP in 1992 to promote the practice and critical review of corporate citizenship among CEOs and their counterparts in government and civil society. It encourages companies to look at their core business policies and their impact on society, on the environment and on development in general. The Center works through consensus groups of CEOs who discuss critical issues on education, environment and local governance, and propose business-oriented solutions to these issues. The consensus groups submit their proposed action plans to the larger community in periodically-held national conferences.

Can our organization avail of PBSP trainings?
The Training and Consulting Group of PBSP manages its training programs through the Social Development Management Institute. It offers a range of courses for development practitioners along the areas of Organizational Development and Programs.
PBSP also offers training venues and facilities at its Head Office in Intramuros, Manila and at the Center for Rural Technology Development in Calauan, Laguna.

Can our organization get financial assistance from PBSP?
PBSP provides financial assistance to partner organizations --- organizations that do development work in our priority provinces and whose work are in line with our priority areas of program assistance.

Does PBSP provide loans for enterprises?
PBSP, through the Small and Medium Enterprise Credit (SMEC) Program, lends credit funds to accredited rural and development banks which in turn relend the same funds to eligible small and medium scale entrepreneurs in the countryside. Loan applicants can inquire and submit their applications to any SMEC-accredited bank in their locality or place of business.
