Enhancing Corporate Citizenship through Supply Chain Environmental Management

Many companies realize that the environmental soundness of their products and services is linked to the environmental soundness of raw materials sourced from suppliers and business partners.

Although a number of companies have already initiated internal efforts towards environmental stewardship, their suppliers may not subscribe to the same level of environmental responsibility. As a result, companies are increasingly looking for opportunities to influence their suppliers’ social and environmental performance.

Promoting Greening the Supply Chain

The Greening the Supply Chain Project (GSC) enables companies to institutionalize policies and mechanisms to address environmental concerns through supply chain environmental management.

4 Key Components:
1. Capability Building
Trainings are being conducted for Buyer Companies to “green” their respective supply chains and for Suppliers to adopt good environmental management practices.
2. Mentoring
Buyer Company transfer skills and knowledge to Supplier as a follow through to ensure the latter’s adoption.
3. Learning Exchange
Sharing sessions are being conducted for Buyers and Suppliers to exchange insights on implementation of “greening” initiatives.
4. Tools Development
Training and operations manuals will be made available for practical step-by-step guides.
