Annual Membership Meeting

Updated August 2008

PBSP membership grows to 238

Seven companies signed up as new members of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) during a recent Breakfast Fellowship at the Manila Polo Club. PBSP pioneered the practice of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the Philippines and Asia.

The international cosmetics giant L’Oreal officially became a PBSP member-company together with JOPA Enterprises, Brother International (Philippines) Corporation, Carl E. Balita Group of Companies, Lucerne Jewelers, and Sitangkai Seaweeds Company.

GeiserMaclang Communications Inc., a marketing communications company has also pledged its membership.

The new member-companies have had CSR efforts in the past, but this year they have decided to take this a step further by joining PBSP.

Among the PBSP trustees who graced the event was Hans Sy, First Executive Vice President of SM Investments Corp., which has been an active member-company since 2004.

SM has partnered with PBSP in its early childhood care assistance projects, donations and transport of refrigerators and coolers to areas in Mindanao for storage of vaccines and temperature-sensitive medicines, and other projects nationwide.

Sy said SM saw the need to join PBSP despite having its own foundation. He encourages companies, even those with their own foundations, to join PBSP.  For companies who want more impact for their CSR, Sy shares, “this (PBSP) is the way to go.”

PBSP, a private and non-profit foundation, is a consortium of 238 companies committed to practicing CSR.  Through PBSP, companies have an organized way of giving to and helping communities nationwide.
