The Benefits of Employee Volunteering

In partnership with the City University of New York and the American Chamber Foundation, PBSP surveyed the corporate employee involvement initiatives of Philippine companies. The study showed the top 5 benefits of employee volunteering.

1. Builds teamwork skills (expressed by 68% of respondents)
  “Volunteering promotes a strong sense of camaraderie among employees regardless of employment status.”--Employees of CADP Group. Corp.

2. Improves a company’s relationships with the community (60%)
  “Perhaps the best return on investment from acts of volunteerism is the trust and good working relationship that we get from the people and the places where our social development programs are directed.”--Petron Corporation

3. Improves employee morale (60%)
  “Helping communities gives a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction to the employees, which in turn increases employee morale and the quality of work in the company.”--Levi Strauss (Phils.), Inc.

4. Improves a company's public image (60%)
  “The company enhances its reputation and goodwill among its customers and its community…The volunteers become the company’s ambassadors of goodwill.”--Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC)

5. Helps create healthier communities (55%)
  “Volunteer employees…identify and evaluate community needs, and…plan and carry out projects that would contribute to the improvement of the quality of life in the communities where they live and work.”--Levi Strauss (Phils.), Inc.

Employee volunteering contributes not only to the business and social agenda of a company but also helps fulfill the personal causes of employees, actualizing their social vision and mission of helping others.
