We are men and women leaders of diverse business
concerns.
Collectively our concern is sustainable social development.
Individually, we build business enterprises… and, we are good
in what we do. Together, our greatest gift to social progress is not
the money that we contribute to fund projects but our collective strength
and knowledge of business that can be applied to the enterprise of
social progress. We are
better together.
Why Should Philippine
Business Care?
| “We live in an age of
social unrest. The threat of economic dislocation may be approaching
explosive proportions… (Though) it is true that private
enterprise has endeavored to contribute to social development…
we must equally recognize that… our actions have been
fragmentary and uncoordinated. We are thus witness to social
welfare projects that fail to respond to the immediate needs
of the people.” |
These reflections of Jose Soriano,
one of PBSP’s founders, capture the sense of urgency in launching
the Foundation as the vehicle for a collective corporate social
response. Three decades after, very little has changed in the country’s
social scenario.
For as long as a majority of Filipinos
continue to live in poverty, corporate social responsibility will
remain relevant and necessary.

“Social development was neither charity
in the pious sense, nor was it economic or market-driven.
What it did give was a high degree of social return, the kind
that build lasting relationships and social infrastructure
that will support growth.”
