Closing the Gap: The Mindanao Catch-Up Plan

In the Mindanao Peace and Development Program (MPDP), PBSP catalyzes both the business and civil society sectors to be involved in programs that contribute directly to the long-term peace and development in Mindanao. Dubbed as a Catch-Up Plan, MPDP envisions bringing the living standards in the poorer provinces in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and the Special Zone of Peace and Development (SZOPAD) on par with the more progressive areas in the region. Family incomes will be raised to above-poverty levels and people will be provided access to education and basic social services.

At present, MPDP is being implemented in selected areas of the Caraga Region, ARMM and SZOPAD particularly, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte, Maguindanao and North Cotabato. Long-term programs will address the following development issues:

Functional and simple literacy
Health
Land Tenure
Income and productivity
Community-building
