Investing
in Productivity and Income Improvement
In order to make impact
in the communities of Muslim Mindanao, the MPDP extends alternative
livelihood programs to augment productivity and household income.
People have begun to be involved in making their own decisions
for their enterprise to face head-on these challenging facts
in the SZOPAD and ARMM areas:
 |
ARMM has the highest poverty
incidence. More than half of the families live below
the region’s annual per capita threshold. |
 |
In 1997, real capita income
in the ARMM is among the lowest. |
 |
ARMM has the lowest labor
force participation rate at 57%. |
 |
Families in the ARMM and
SZOPAD suffer from dependence on farm income, low productivity
and poor access to resources. |
In the previous
fiscal year, MPDP has made some significant inroads in some
of the most challenging areas in Mindanao. Several households
have become beneficiaries for the following livelihood assistance:
 |
400 Badjao fishing households
in 8 communities assisted in marine product enterprises |
 |
40 upland farming households
engaged in vegetable farming and buying and selling of
coastal and marine products |
 |
100 farmers have been trained
with organic farming |
 |
2 community associations
engaged in various livelihood activities |
 |
1 Badjao community engaged
in mat weaving |
