Ensuring a Healthy Workforce

PBSP’s DOTS in the Workforce Program helps companies set up a TB control and prevention program following the DOTS strategy.

DOTS or Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course is the World Health Organization (WHO) - prescribed strategy for ensuring proper diagnosis and cure of TB.

PBSP is working collaboratively with the Infectious Diseases Office of the Department of Health (DOH) and in association with the Philippine Tuberculosis Initiatives for the Private Sector (Philippine TIPS).

A number of companies nationwide are now implementing DOTS in the workforce programs, benefiting employees, dependents, contractors, and the businesses’ immediate communities.

Pilot efforts show positive outcome, including increase in TB detection rate, increase in cure and success rates, and destigmatization of TB in the workplace and the community.

In the coming year, PBSP hopes to reach 200 companies nationwide.

Why Companies?

TB is not just a health issue. It is also a business concern. It is the company’s responsibility, and the employees’ right to be assured of a healthy working environment. TB affects productivity and injures the economy.

What Companies Can Do to Control TB?

Company TB programs should be consistent with DOTS. Large companies may diagnose suspects and treat patients following the DOTS protocol using in their own in-house facilities. Small companies may refer suspects and patients to public or private DOTS Centers. A sustained TB education program is indispensable.

Companies may avail of free TB-DOTS information materials from PBSP.
