Standard Chartered Bank and PBSP continue livelihood and education support for Catbalogan City Agro-Industrial School
SCB Livelihood and Education for Agri-Aqua Development program (SCB LEAD) is Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Philippines’ continuing initiative that started in 2017 to assist senior high school students and teachers of Catbalogan City Agro-Industrial School (CCAIS).
Now on its third year, in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), SCB LEAD scales up reach to support41 more CCAIS senior high school graduates and alumni to further equip them with necessary skills and provide farm inputs, appropriate tools, and seed capital which will allow them to kickstart their own agri-businesses of choice.
LEADING THE FUTURE AGRO-INDUSTRY CHAMPIONS
In its first two years, LEAD provided its beneficiaries with entrepreneurial opportunities by setting up four agri-businesses such as black rice farming, vermicomposting, coco sap production, vegetables and herb farming. The program provided the necessary skills and knowledge to both students and teachers of CCAIS and eventually honed the school to become a leading institution on agriculture education in the province of Catbalogan.
Kicking of its year three, SCB LEAD included raising of livestock and poultry, balut production, rice, and lettuce.
LEAD year three kickoff activity welcomed PBSP Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Citizenship (CSR&CC) team, SCB executives, and employee-volunteers who conducted training on business and cashflow management to our 41 new agri-preneurs. SCB also provided IT training to additional 20 SHS students of CCAIS and provided each with school bag and supplies for the incoming school year.
The Department of Education (DepEd) also extended support to the program, represented by its Chief of School Governance and Operations Division of Catbalogan City, Dr. Maribel C. Ruedas and CCAIS principal, Mr. Archie Fabillar.
In the next six months, the program will continuously monitor and mentor these 41 agri-preneurs to ensure a successful cycle of harvest and sustain the agri-business.
SCB LEAD is Standard Chartered Philippines’ flagship program under Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, the bank’s global community initiative to support young people from low-income households through community programs focused on education, employability and entrepreneurship.
