DOW Philippines joins forces with PBSP in leading coastal cleanup in Lobo, Batangas, as part of #PullingOurWeight global initiative.

On 16 November 2023, Dow Philippines, in collaboration with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and the people's organization Samahan ng Maliliit na Mangingisda sa Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan sa Brgy. Lagadlarin, demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship by spearheading a coastal cleanup in Lobo, Batangas where Dow planted 5,000 seedlings in the barangay's mangrove forest area in January.

As part of the #PullingOurWeight campaign, Dow Philippines has been actively involved in combating plastic waste and promoting responsible waste management. 17 employee volunteers actively participated in the event conducted for the third time in 2023, led by Country Manager Errol Ignacio, Site Operations Leader Maria Arlene, and HR Manager Arlene Castillon.

During the coastline cleanup, the dedicated team managed to recover a total of 51 kg of solid waste, including plastic bottles, food wrappers, and fishing nets. This effort is part of Dow's ongoing environmental activism and its unwavering commitment to sustainability.

Reflecting on Dow's commitment to sustainability, Errol Ignacio, Dow Country Manager, stated, "At Dow, we are not only focused on cleaning up our coastlines but also on preventing plastic waste at its source. Our sustainability targets emphasize transforming plastic waste and closing the loop through initiatives like #PullingOurWeight. We are proud to be part of a global movement towards a more sustainable future."

PBSP CSR Project Officers Hanna Relanes, Lace Lace Luzano, and Nic Rubas also expressed their thoughts on the event, stating, "Collaborative efforts like these are crucial to making a meaningful impact on our environment. We commend Dow Philippines for their dedication to sustainability, and we look forward to more partnerships that contribute to positive change."

Building on its legacy of delivering circular economy solutions since the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) event's inception in 1994, Dow Philippines continues to forge partnerships with PBSP and various organizations. These collaborations aim to prevent plastic waste from entering the environment and raise awareness about waste sorting at the source.
