In partnership with the Reading, Early Grades, Art, and Language Education (REGALE) of the UP College of Education, PBSP provided 102 teachers from the Schools Division of Basilan with learning sessions on key areas of foundational literacy, including language and literacy, reading comprehension, fluency, phonological awareness and phonics, writing, literature, and differentiated instruction.

The teachers also participated in a lesson-planning workshop, where they developed evidence-based lesson plans and received coaching and feedback to translate their learning into classroom practice.

Basilan Schools Division Superintendent Myra Borja Mangkabung opened the training and expressed support for the program. Schools Division officials Ms. Delia Sandatan, Curriculum Implementation Division Chief, and Ms. Janet Sotto, Reading Focal, also joined the training. The Office of the Director General for Basic Education of the BARMM Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education likewise expressed its support through a message delivered by Mr. Abdulbasit Talicop, OIC-Chief of the Curriculum and Learning Division.

While recent gains in the country’s PISA results are encouraging, strengthening foundational learning remains an important priority. Through LETRA, PBSP continues to equip teachers with evidence-based knowledge and practical strategies to strengthen literacy instruction.
